Join SciTrek as a Classroom Mentor!
We're recruiting volunteers for the 2024-2025 school year to support our SciTrek Secondary program. Sign-ups for Winter can be found here.
Who We Need:
- Classroom Mentors (Ages 17-25)
- Inspire middle schoolers through hands-on STEM mentorship as a near-peer guide.
Perks:
- Earn UCSB course credit (1 credit for 30 hours per quarter)
- Build your resume with valuable experience in STEM education
- Transportation is provided
- Get to know peers interested in teaching, STEM, and giving back to the community!
- Get volunteer credit for non-course commitments (e.g., fraternities, sororities)
- Cannot be combined with course credit
Committment:
- One SciTrek Secondary Module shift requires:
- One three-hour Orientation (could be held over 2 days, 90 minutes each)
- Learn the science experiment and important content that you'll teach the kids
- Learn how to effectively work with secondary students (7th and 8th graders)
- Two days of classroom work, 2-3 hours per day
- Shift times include travel time - transportation is provided from the Chemistry building to the schools
- You will work with a team of SciTrek Mentors and an awesome SciTrek Lead who will drive you to and from the school and be your support person on site.

SciTrek Secondary Winter Modules will run in Weeks 5 and 8 of the Quarter.
